Next Peak In The Chain

Middle Sister is typically climbed in combo with East Sister. While most people make the traverse, this can also be climbed by itself. Middle Sister gives the rare opportunity of climbing a peak that lies in two states. During the ascent, at 10,560 feet lies a marker that shows the state line. Just a few feet to the east lies a large boulder pile that marks the highest point in Lyon County, NV. The main summit lies in California and counts towards a few major lists.

Overall
3.6

This story is continued from my East Sister Report.

Once down to the saddle between East & Middle, the brush disappears, but Middle Sister stands daunting in your path, especially after giving up that hard earned elevation. Middle Sister was much easier to climb than East Sister and even though my legs were burning with each step, it seemed like progress was being made every time I looked up. Before long we were at the rock piles marking the Lyon County High Point and the CA/NV border. From here we made the short ascent to the Middle Sister Summit. The views on top of these peaks and throughout the entire hike are amazing. Looking west you could see Highland, Silver, Reynolds, Raymond, Round Top, Hawkins, the Freel/Jobs Area, And peaks further north from there. To the other side was Mt Grant, Potato Peak, And the northern White Mountains. Looking right across from us was the beautiful South Sister which will be a target another day. After hanging out on the summit for a bit, started the descent and we’re back to the car under 2 hours.

This was an awesome traverse and beautiful country. My 11th And 12th Oguls and 2nd on the Great Basin Peak List.
Elevation and mileage is for whole trip.
