Easy P300 On A Quick Trip To Reno

If you ever find yourself in Reno and need to grab a quick summit, Rattlesnake Mountain sticks out like a sore thumb south of the airport. It’s a great place to watch planes come and go while getting a light hike in.

Spent a few days up in Reno with the family. I have been eyeing this mountain for a couple years now but have never made it up during my trips to Reno. Usually we are either out fishing too long, the weather is too hot, or like last summer, smoke from California wildfires was brutal.

This time, I opened up the blinds from our room at the Grand Sierra and could see the mountain out at the end of the airport, I knew I had to get it in this time.  After fishing the day before out at Pyramid Lake, me and the family took a quick little stroll up Rattlesnake Mountain on the way out of town. We parked at the small lot on Alexander Lake Rd. between Twin Peaks and Rattlesnake Mountain. We crossed the road and went through the little opening. There is a beacon on top the mountain, so there is a dirt access road all the way to the top which makes for an easy stroll. My 8 and 6 year old kids had no issues walking up. We got up in 30 minutes.

Great views on top and pretty cool to watch the planes come in from the south and pass by below you. This would probably be an amazing view at night as well. All in all, if you are in Reno and need a to get a quick P300 in, this is a great spot!
